Decarbonising homes and buildings: Key takeaways from our latest APPG session

On 16 June 2025, the Net Zero APPG hosted a packed parliamentary session exploring how we can accelerate the decarbonisation of homes and buildings and ensure they are fit for a net zero future.

We were pleased to welcome Miatta Fahnbulleh MP, Minister for Energy Consumers, who set out the government’s approach to delivering the Warm Homes Plan. The Minister emphasised the need for consumer engagement, stronger protections, and a long-term workforce strategy to meet the ambition of upgrading one million homes a year.

The discussion covered:

  • The importance of long-term policy certainty to drive investment and skills development.

  • The role of consumer trust and simple, accessible schemes in supporting retrofit uptake.

  • The critical contribution of small businesses and community groups in delivering local solutions.

  • The need for public sector leadership to set high standards and catalyse supply chain growth.

  • Calls for a more coordinated national framework and better knowledge-sharing across regions.

Thank you to our excellent speakers from TrustMark, Barratt Redrow, the UK Green Building Council, the National Wealth Fund, and Parliament, and to all those who attended and contributed.
